Day 3 of our Yosemite experience was to be our last day in the park. Indeed, we only had a few morning hours to enjoy the park before it we headed back to San Francisco to begin part two of our San Fran adventure. Whilst driving into the park and parking up for more photos of Yosemite Falls (and to enjoy the sense of accomplishment of gazing up at the heights we had scaled the day before), we found ourselves with a rather peculiar sight.
Thanks to the lack of breeze, Yosemite Falls was mirrored perfectly by puddles in the meadow. It was rather fantastic.
This was a particularly lovely welcome to the Park on our final morning, and also set the tone for the day. As we only had a few hours before departing back to San Fran, we were going for a flat, easy walk down to Mirror Lake. After catching the free coach from the car park to the trail head, we wandered off through the trees towards the lake. The path twisted its way through the forest, shaped by trees and bounded by boulders.
As would be expected from the name, and also from our puddle experience earlier in the day, the lake acted as a mirror, reflecting the surrounding mountains. The complete absence of breeze meant that the water surface was disturbed only by small insects making their way around. The sights were surprisingly impressive (as they all had been in the Park).
Both of the above are the same photo, but which is the correct way up!
Walking out from Mirror Lake granted us more mountain views to enjoy and appreciate.
Eventually, our time in Yosemite had come to end. Had we have known how much we were going to enjoy it, we would have stayed longer. But alas, it was time to leave Mirror Lake, return to the hire car and head into San Francisco for our urban adventure. If you ever get the opportunity to visit Yosemite, then do. It is accessible but yet retains enough challenges for most. I could happily have spent a week in the Park and never been bored. So I’ll have to go back!
